As industrial cameras, machine vision systems, surveillance imaging, medical optics, and advanced optical equipment demand ever-higher image quality, lens focusing systems are rapidly evolving from traditional mechanical mechanisms toward high-speed, closed-loop, micro-positioning solutions.
With the continuous improvement in imaging quality and automation requirements for digital cameras, industrial cameras, and smart devices, higher demands are placed on the performance of lens focusing systems. Linear Voice Coil Motors (LVCMs), featuring direct linear drive, high dynamic response, and high positioning accuracy, have become a core actuation solution for modern camera autofocus systems.
In a voice coil motor focusing system, the motor directly drives the lens group along the optical axis using electromagnetic force, enabling fast and smooth linear motion for precise autofocus. Compared with traditional stepper motors or gear-driven mechanisms, LVCMs operate without mechanical contact, transmission backlash, or friction, significantly improving focusing accuracy and repeatability. This makes them ideal for high-frequency, micro-stroke focusing applications.
During high-speed autofocus (AF) operation, linear voice coil motors provide high acceleration and rapid response, allowing the lens to quickly search and lock onto the optimal focus point. This greatly reduces focusing time and enhances overall shooting efficiency. The smooth and continuous motion also minimizes vibration and noise, which is particularly beneficial for video recording and high-magnification imaging.
